October 2023 Meeting Recap

Our October meeting took place last Thursday, and it was absolutely fantastic! Here's a brief overview for those who couldn't attend 📋
‣Bogdan Petrea, Dalmatica Mobility Group, “Navigating international shipping regulations for moving household goods”,
Here are a few highlights:
✔️They handle shipping of: Household goods, door to door, Vehicles, Fine Art, Pets.
✔️Most important considerations are:
Customs requirements
Import/export restrictions
Documentation such as work permits, visas
Taxes and duties
✔️Croatia’s customs process is still analog, requiring physical paper while other countries such as the Netherlands is completely digital.
✔️Due to digitalization and efficiency, recommends shipping containers through Rotterdam rather than Rijeka. In many cases, it can be cheaper even when you add the cost to move the goods from the Netherlands to Croatia.
✔️Every country has its own restrictions and requirements. Examples: Thailand considers poppy seeds used for cooking as drugs. Serbia requires the name of a book, its author and year published for all shipped books.
✔️Duties and taxes should be calculated BEFORE shipping.
✔️Correct labeling is vital. Example: Mislabeling in Argentina almost resulted in the arrest of the shipper.
✔️It is on the company to educate the customer of what is required.
✔️If something hasn’t been imported to the EU before, it may require prior approval.
✔️Import/export license is only needed for alcohol, tobacco and pharma products.
✔️Baggage of less than 100kg can be sent by air, which means there are no duties, but air cargo is more expensive.
