March 2024 Meeting Recap

Our March Monthly Meeting was awesome! ‣ Piero Palevsky, Tech in Split: The Alternative to Tourism. 

Piero outlined the tech ecosystem in Split and Croatia, in comparison to the west – most specifically the US in terms of skills, pay scale and mobility.

‣A few highlights:

✔️Roles fall into three tiers in terms of pay and skills. Croatia is mostly tier 1 and 2, with few opportunities to move into tier 3.

✔️Challenges of IT in Croatia are low salaries, high contributions, limited upward mobility and, generally-speaking, a negative working culture.

✔️Split is ripe for a large multi-national company to open a tech campus, which could attract more tech professionals and companies.

✔️Sweet spot – Global product companies sourcing Croatian talent to augment their teams abroad.
