✔️ Petar answered questions on various topics related to immigration, property, company structures and operations, hiring and firing of workers, and landlords/renter’s rights.

Here are some highlights:

✔️ While a person and a company have the same rights when owning a property, a company is at risk of going bankrupt or being deleted from registry if it lapses for too long of a period. This would make it very complicated to recover the ownership of the property, if the owning company is technically “dead”.

✔️You can be fined as the company if you do not provide written proof that your employee has been registered in the health and pension systems. They must also be given written confirmation that they will be paid their unused holiday time when they leave.

✔️There are 4 ways to fire an employee:

‣ Redundancy

‣ Performance

‣ Extraordinary reasons (such as criminal acts)

‣ During the trial period

✔️If someone is on an extended sick leave, and you suspect they are not actually sick, you can report them to the Inspektorat that you believe their sick leave documents are not valid.

✔️You can only be legally kicked out of an apartment before the end of the contract if there are terms in the contract that allow for them to terminate the contract early, such as with 30 days notice.

✔️Landlords must provide at least 24 hour’s notice for entry (which should be in the contract).

📌 Udruga Updates 

‣ Split Tech City Festival – September 6/7 – We were invited to do a panel, which will be focused on how to have success and find opportunities in Croatia. We are looking for examples of businesses in Croatia that have had success to use as example case studies during the panel. If you have an idea of a business you’ve seen that you are impressed by, admire or you think has done something really cool, please share it with Flor, Maj, Geoff or Sara by August 15.

‣Due to the summer commitments of our members, we will have our next Informal Chat at the Daltonist in October.

‣Our August meet up will be a beach party at Obojena. Details to follow.
